Multiple scientific studies have shown the health benefits and general safety of CBD products, attributing to its growing use and popularity, but recently, CBD’s little baby, Delta-8 has been getting lots of attention.
What exactly is Delta 8? What’s the difference between CBD and Delta-8? Is Delta-8 THC? Which one should I use? Is it legal?
CBD and Delta-8 are both two of the many cannabinoids (there are over 100) found naturally in the cannabis plant. CBD is the second most prevalent active ingredient in cannabis. It’s derived from the hemp plant and can help with conditions such as epilepsy, anxiety, insomnia, arthritic pain and inflammation, addiction, multiple sclerosis, etc., all without producing the “high” effect attributed to the most prevalent cannabinoid in cannabis, THC (technically, Delta-9 THC).
CBD is available in edible forms such as gummies and sour worms , flavored oils, capsules, etc., as well as topical forms like creams.
Delta-8 (technically Delta-8 THC) is another naturally occurring cannabinoid in cannabis; however, it’s only available in very small doses, so manufacturers extract Delta-8 from CBD. Yeah, we’re sure you noticed the THC part on the name. It turns out, Delta-8 is basically the same molecule as Delta-9 (typical THC found in cannabis), but with a different configuration (specifically, a double bond is located in a different carbon chain). That makes it react differently in your body. Some say, Delta-8 is Delta-9’s milder cousin. You get all the good stuff, without the paranoia and anxiety.
Benefits of Delta-8 include appetite boost, relaxation, neuroprotection, stress- relief, better sleep, alleviation of nausea, and pain relief, all with a generally milder psychoactive experience than Delta-9. And of course, Delta-8, being an extraction of the hemp plant, is 100% legal, just like CBD.
DELTA 8 PROVIDES A MILD PSYCHOACTIVE EXPERIENCE
That will probably depend on what you use your extracts for. Each cannabinoid has its own set of benefits, but the overall main difference between CBD and Delta-8 is that the latter could give you some of the “high” effects associated with THC, whereas CBD won’t give you that feeling.
Recent studies have also shown that CBD actually inhibits appetite (contrary to Delta-8) so if you’re trying to lose weight, you might prefer to stick with CBD. Also, keep in mind that since Delta-8 is a cousin of Delta-9, use of Delta-8 could result in a positive reading for THC in a drug test.
In the end, it’s mostly a matter of personal preference and how your body reacts to each product. At the Stash Shack we ensure our products are of the highest quality and safety standards, thoroughly tested, and above all, user-approved.
